The 3M™ Perfect-it™ Polishing Sponge is a soft polishing sponge used for polishing out fine scratches from previous polishing steps. The waffle surface provides a larger contact area on curved surfaces than flat sponges, minimises heat build-up during polishing, and helps eliminate "swirl" marks. It also helps the sponge maintain the properties of the polishing compound and reduce splatter.

We designed these polishing sponges for use in conjunction with our 3M™ Perfect-It™ colour-coded polishing compound system. The polishing sponge removes "swirl" marks left by sponges or polishing wool when a perfect finish is required. The finishing results depend on the combination of coating type, polishing compound, and tools used. Our sponges have been developed to accommodate the unique chemical composition of evolving paint and clear coat technologies. Sponges are generally less aggressive and provide a better finish than polishing wool. They operate in the range of 1200 to 2000 RPM, removing fine scratches, polishing marks, and surface damage. Polishing sponges are used in conjunction with machine polishing and are suitable for use with rotary and orbital tools. Our 3M™ Perfect-It™ system was created to achieve showroom-class finishes with deep colour and rich gloss. Our system uses a progressive series of abrasives, sponges, and polishing pads, along with proprietary polishing compounds at all stages of repair. The stages include sanding, scratch removal, polishing, machine polishing, and eliminating "swirl" marks if necessary on dark colours. The level of work and stages needed to repair the paint coating depend on the degree of paint imperfections.
