The throttle is an important part of the air intake system in spark-ignition engines. It is usually placed between the air filter and the intake manifold and allows control of the amount of air entering the engine's combustion chamber. The degree of throttle opening is controlled by the driver during accelerator pedal movements. Additionally, the degree of throttle opening during idle is controlled by an electric stepper motor.
Over time, deposits and contaminants accumulating in the intake channels disrupt the airflow, causing unstable throttle operation. The swing valve and closing spring may also become damaged, which may require the entire throttle assembly to be replaced.
External symptoms indicating a poor throttle condition include idle speed fluctuations, engine jerking and choking during acceleration, and a noticeable power drop.
